In 1960 Robert L. Marquess shut down his accounting firm and founded the Missouri Brick Company so that he could pursue his passion for building. After several successful years, he outgrew his original location and purchased the current home of Mo Brick on the western edge of Maplewood.
In 1976, Robert hired the notable architect, Robert E. Entzeroth, to design their new brick headquarters. Shortly after, Robert’s son Don Marquess joined the growing firm.
Don built relationships with architects across the region and Mo Brick became both an invaluable resource and an integral part of the 80s, 90s and 2000s building boom from Clayton and St. Louis to St. Charles county.
Highly sought after for their brick expertise, Don and Robert worked to furnish the brick for just about every new building in the area, including three of the largest brick structures in the State of Missouri—Busch Stadium, the Ameristar Casino, and The Plaza in Clayton.
From their early relationship with Gyo Obata and George Hellmuth at HOK, Robert and Don’s reputation grew as the go-to source for brick. The highly knowledgeable father and son team were known to always take special care— ensuring the success of each brick project they worked on from beginning to end.
